Body Beast my personal review

Let's kickoff with the awesomeness!

Personally I am celebrating that "yes" I completed a "90 Day" program as my traditional go to is 21 days and once yes "once" I managed to finish a full 60 Day Program so right there is a cause for celebration! I started off the beginning of August and ended it the first week of November.

The Second Awesome "WIN"

My beginning Body Beast got my honey back in the gym!
That alone was worth the whole 90 Days!

The Workouts!

There is a Build, Bulk and Beast! With a Huge Beast or a Lean Beast!

Needless to say I went Lean and Mikey went Huge Beast Mode!

Hello Leg Day let me say that one is the definite stand out! Yowzer does Sagi know how to put together a leg workout! Those up on a bench and then back down into a lunge form of muscle building torture were crazy! I was indeed walking funny for a few days.

The Nutrition!

Nutrition we all know is the TOUGHEST in any program but Beast nutrition brings in a whole new mindset! This is a 90 Day program for a reason.... you first need to fuel those muscles to grow and yes the term "Bulking Season" is real! This is not a jump in and lose weight program. Once you battle  your demons and trust the process it all can flow from there.

My Personal Journey!

It has taken me to awhile to put this together as I feel that I have done the program a dis-service as I got in my own way for a lot of this program! I do not have a rocking success story but thankfully I know all the reasons why and it was a journey I needed to take. Bulk season can be a challenge and then for myself the switch off from bulk didn't happen and I fell into bad habits, oops! Reality I already know all too well.... You can not outwork a bad diet!

On the physical side I did see progress which is awesome! Even with all my planning I was still teaching a lifting class for 3/4 of this program so I was unable to push as hard as I would have liked but I still saw gains and changes and for that I am excited!

Great things I have learnt!
  • I can complete a "90 Day Program"
  • I love having my partner in the gym with me!
  • A strong mindset is KEY
  • It's okay to adapt and change as you need too!
  • I learnt how to say "no" to (some) things that distracted me from my ultimate goal!
  • Progress is Progress!

Will I be doing this program again?! You betcha ya'
I will be doing another round when I can give it my full effort, attention and bring a stronger mindset to set myself up for even better success!

Erin Stern's 4 Week Trainer- Recap Week 3!

Week 3 Complete and a lesson in Post Workout Recovery!

I have been diligently taking BCAA's and P90X Rest and Recovery after my intense workouts. For some crazy reason on the beginning half of this week they seemed to elude my memory banks as a necessity. I can assure you that will not be happening again for a long time. By Thursday morning I was spent.... my legs were failing me while teaching a Pump class and sore doesn't really cover how I felt! Thankfully the rest of my Thursday was filled with yoga classes so I got lots of opportunities to stretch. Upon coming home late that evening I crawled into the tub and then into bed. After a very deep sleep I woke up completely refreshed and ready to go....  I had a yoga class in the morning then managed to hit a double workout as I had missed one earlier in the week. My legs were still not a 100% but Friday was all upper body. Chest, Shoulder x 2 and arms. The following day was the true test- "Leg Day" I gotta tell ya' I was very nervous about my legs holding up for the plyo workout! As luck would have it one of my regulars that attends my Pump and Spin classes was at the gym that morning so I recruited her to join me for my leg workout. Therefore I knew there would be no cutting corners and no complaining! Well it worked and we both nailed the workout! Yeah to workout buddies!

Inspired this morning I decided to grab my tape measure. It appears in the past three weeks without making any other changes then adding in this workout I have lost 1/2" in all areas of my body. Chest, waist, hips, thighs and even biceps! I was pretty excited about that! One more week to go......

Erin Stern's 4 Week Trainer- Recap Week 2!

Week 2 complete!!! Most of the moves from week one are repeated through week 2 with the odd exception. Due to my teaching BodyPump classes my shoulders are taking a killing with 2 shoulder workouts included in this program and 2 with my classes! Thankfully shoulders is one of my fave body parts to train. I find especially with women that shoulders tend to not get the attention they deserve. If your going to kill yourself building up those triceps and biceps you need a gorgeous shoulder cap to top it all off! After all rumour is tank top season should be coming soon!

Yesterday I completed the "Plyo Leg Day" with no add-on's! It's a great endurance workout and really gets that heart rate up there. If I didn't have additional leg work throughout the week I personally would add in a second leg day!

If you give this program a try I would love to hear about your experience!

Erin Stern's 4 Week Trainer- Week One

For the month of March I decided to challenge myself a little further as I was missing my time in the weight room. I decided to check out the FREE training programs available through Bodybuilding.com and came across Erin Stern's program that was a perfect fit with my already busy schedule and the timeframe of 4 weeks that I was able to commit too.

Saturday was my last workout of week one and I loved all the workouts! I am a personal trainer and sometimes it is nice to have someone else tell you what to do so this program worked perfectly. Added bonus was trying new moves I haven't done before! I always love learning something new and have already included some of them in my private training sessions. Saturday was another introduction to a new idea for me a Plyo Leg Day! This was a unique experience as I am very much the lift heavy person on leg day. I was definitely tired at the end of each plyo round but I was still unsure that I had done enough to annihilate leg day so I did complete a few weighted exercises and once I was satisfied it was home time. It appears Plyo Leg Day's are sneaky.... upon attempting to jump a puddle I found my legs didn't really want too. In the evening and parts of the next day I had my moments of wishing we lived in a rancher. I would definitely say it was a success and I am committing to completing the workout as written in the program to really get an idea of the end result! Of all the workouts my favourite from last week was "Back" for sure. It's one of those super important body parts that most of us don't spend enough time on it and I liked the creativity of the workout!

Living Fit.....

Yes! I have been quiet but don't think for a moment that the adventures have not been happening?!

During my marathon training I stumbled across a training program created by one of my favourite fitness peeps, Jamie Eason. I was dying to start the program as soon as I checked into it and watched a few of the video's. Now the catch for those of us self proclaimed "Cardio junkies" there is no cardio for the first month! Needless to say training for a marathon and not completing any cardio for four weeks didn't really fit into the plan of the moment.  The program was shelved until my marathon was completed. There were many occasions where knowing that once my marathon was complete that I had a "reason" to not run or do any cardio for a full month seem like such an amazing reward. For one full month when asked if I would like to go for a run my response was "Sorry! I'm not allowed!" with a coy smirk on my face.

Exactly a week after my marathon was completed I started the Live Fit program. Instantly I fell in love with the workouts. Way, way, way back when I first initially started working out the weight room was my domain. I loved the sense of power, watching your muscles grow and kicking it with the big boys! Oh those days when you can out lift the guy beside you, Mwah!!! Sorry my competitive Type A coming out again.....

First couple weeks in seem a bit strange! Your workouts are 5 days a week and approx 30-40 mins. That's it!! I can tell you "leg" day, I actually did a few extra sets because my legs were confused. They were yelling "hey we can't leave yet! We have only warmed up! Seriously, this is all you want from us?" Then....you hit Phase 2! Phase 2 amps up your game. 6 days a week with your weight workout and 4 of those days include a half hour session of cardio. Yeah to the return of cardio, although I must say you do become a complacent about the cardio. Some days you affectionately reflect on the month of "no cardio" but alas that dream is over and lets get going....

Currently I am almost at the halfway point and can not believe the changes that I have seen in my body already. This last week with my arm and shoulder workout I was able to amp up some of weights. Triceps? that allusive muscle hiding behind those batwings. They exist and you can find them with this program! I promise!!  Triceps have been my opportunity and no program has worked them like this one! I can't wait too see what my arms will look like in another 6 weeks! ooooo yea bring on the tank tops!

Mid Program!!

If your looking for something new, check it out!!!

I also found this wicked site that has the best printouts for the workouts etc!!! I love this person for creating this page and freely sharing it with everyone.
